Preparing For Cheerleading Competition

A cell phone and a list of things to remember are only some of the things that you will need when preparing for cheerleading competition. The cell phone is important in the event that you need to get in touch with a squad member or someone in their family, so be sure that you have current contact information on everyone. Cell phones are also good in case you need to be contacted for any additional cheerleading info, especially at the last minute.

A first aid kit is also a good idea. Naturally, the National Cheerleading Association requires that these and other medical supplies be on hand, whether at a competition or a cheerleading camp, but having your own kit is great for some problems requiring only band-aids, etc. Be sure that you replace anything that is missing or old in the kit and add items if necessary. Make sure that you have all of the necessary paperwork like medical forms with current information as well.

You will need to remember to bring the music for cheerleaders when going to cheerleading competitions. It is also a good idea to bring extra music in case it is needed or just to keep everyone upbeat and motivated. A video camera is another item you should consider bringing to competitions. The coach and other members may be too busy to videotape everything so you may want to ask one of the parents to make the recording so everyone can view the tape together later.

Naturally, you want to be sure that all members of the squad have their cheerleaders uniforms clean and ready to go, as well as any makeup and accessories that will be needed. Even if you plan on applying before leaving for the competition there is a good chance that you will need a touch up prior to your performance.

It is very important that you remain energized and hydrated at cheerleading competitions so bringing along some healthy snacks and a water bottle are a must, as most of these competitions last all day. Also, remember that the uniforms consist of more than just the skirt, shorts and shell. You also need to remember your cheerleading shoes and socks and make sure that they are clean and white. You may also be wearing other accessories, such as hair bows. Make a list of those small items as well just to be safe.

Cheerleading Competition Events
One of the first things that you have to consider is what type of squad you have; high school, college, etc. You need to be sure which NCA cheerleading competition actually caters to your category. Also be sure to find out if there are specific cheerleading policies in place, such as gender requirements, as some events will allow coed squads while others are girls only.

Preparing For Cheerleader Competitions
Another item that needs to be taken care of about 3 months before cheerleader competitions is choosing the music for your routine. The music for cheerleaders can be pre-mixed or it can be customized for a routine; either way the team should choose their music and start integrating the steps and stunts that the team has been practicing. Since most of the competitions have a time limit (usually about 2 ½ minutes), it is important to make sure that the music you have chosen does conform to whatever time restrictions are in place.
