Competition Cheerleading Tips
Before heading off to your next NCA cheerleading competition, there are several things that you should be sure to do to help ensure that you have a good experience. Since competition cheerleading requires fundraising and practicing along with many, many hours of effort and hard work, you want to make sure that the competition goes as well as it possibly can. Here are some competition cheerleading tips to keep in mind.
Naturally, you will want each member of the squad to make their own checklist, yet the coach should also have a major list. Some of the cheerleading tips include assigning certain parts of that list to each member as well, in order for everything to be checked and double checked, which will hopefully avoid forgetting something important. This also includes being prepared for emergencies, so make sure to check the first aid kit and replace anything that is missing and make sure that everyone's medical information, including releases, are current.
Be sure to pack a camera and ask one of the parents or someone who is not a member of the squad to film it so that you can look at the cheerleading videos later as a way of reviewing the memories and as a teaching tool. You can look at everything that was done in order to be even better prepared for future competition cheerleading events. You may also want someone to take some kind of notes so that scores can be written down along with any comments on the squad, competition or other competitors for future reference.
Once you are at the competition, try to stay focused and calm. An NCA cheerleading competition can be lots of fun and very exciting but also stressful, so try not to let your emotions take over. You will want to take a tour around the area so that you know where everything is and so that you will have an idea as to how long it will take to get where you need to be so that you will be on time. Make sure that everyone on the squad knows when and where they need to show up.
Always be polite and keep in mind that each individual's behavior also reflects on the entire squad and you never know when someone important is watching or listening. Competition cheerleading can be stressful for everyone involved so you need to remain supportive of the other squads and all of their members. Be aware of what is going on around you, watch other squads when they perform and you can likely walk away with some useful competition cheerleading tips for the next competition. Keep in mind that being boastful or a sore loser is poor sportsmanship, so refrain from being arrogant or negative.

Preparing For Cheerleader Competitions
Another item that needs to be taken care of about 3 months before cheerleader competitions is choosing the music for your routine. The music for cheerleaders can be pre-mixed or it can be customized for a routine; either way the team should choose their music and start integrating the steps and stunts that the team has been practicing. Since most of the competitions have a time limit (usually about 2 ½ minutes), it is important to make sure that the music you have chosen does conform to whatever time restrictions are in place.
Cheerleading Competition Events
One of the first things that you have to consider is what type of squad you have; high school, college, etc. You need to be sure which NCA cheerleading competition actually caters to your category. Also be sure to find out if there are specific cheerleading policies in place, such as gender requirements, as some events will allow coed squads while others are girls only.
